good starting point, but move away quickly

As is, this keyboard is large. However, "What is" allowed to have significant drawbacks:
1: the speakers are horrible. With external speakers or headphones, it sounds great (Requires an adapter such as the keyboard is making a quarter of an inch). If you play one key at a time, the speakers may be acceptable, but are unable to combine sounds several keys.
2: not sensitive to touch. This means that, no matter how hard or soft you press the keys, a sound will be played the same volume.
3: A level high by default. Every time I turned the keyboard, I lowered the volume to one third. The keyboard uses button presses, rather than make one, to control the volume. This is just annoying and should have been corrected.
4: There is full size. It has 61 keys, a piano has 88. This may or may not be a constraint function their level of skill and preference song.
5: Headphone jack is on the back of the keyboard. Must be in the front, which is more convenient and comfortable.
6: flimsy lectern. This is a problem with some top models from Yamaha as well.

For the exceptionally bright side:
1: the sound of the piano by default, with good headphones (Sennheiser HD 350), is spectacular.
2: very light and easy to carry. You can also run on batteries, if You Want to take camping or something.
3: Very cheap, which is useful if you plan to take him camping. It is also durable if you are careful with it.

Sometimes I prefer to use this keyboard instead of my new Yamaha DGX 505, simply because the notes sound so beautiful.

If Your Child wants to play the piano, either this or a YPT 300 is perfect. The Piano Handbook by Carl Humphries is also useful.

Great keyboard for beginners

I bought this for my 7 Year Old to practice when she began piano lessons. She is doing very well and likes to play on it! It has lots of fun features, she can play after "real" practice time is over. I think this will last for several years.
